What We Believe

We affirm that the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are wholly and verbally inspired, and that they are without error in the original manuscripts. We believe that the authority of Scripture becomes inescapably compromised if it is judged to be errant in anyway, or if its teachings are made subordinate to human reason, tradition, other writings, or experience.

We affirm the personhood of God the Father, the Creator of heaven and earth, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He works all things after the counsel of His own eternal will, and that He gives all mercies, saving graces, and spiritual gifts as He pleases.

We affirm that God the Son, Jesus Christ, pre-existed eternally with the Father, and that He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and sinless in His life. We affirm that He is the only atonement for sin. By His blood and through His death on the cross we are saved. He was raised bodily, and ascended into heaven where He intercedes on behalf of His people. Jesus Christ will come to earth again in power and great glory to set up His physical kingdom upon the earth.

We affirm that the person of God the Holy Spirit came forth from the Father and the Son, to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He effectually calls, regenerates, sanctifies, comforts and seals those who truly believe in Jesus Christ.

We affirm that all men are sinners by nature and by choice, but that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

We affirm that those who accept Christ as their Savior and Lord will rejoice forever in God’s presence. Those who refuse to turn from sin will be eternally tormented in hell, separated from God.

We affirm that the universal church is composed of all regenerated persons and that Christ is the Head of His church. This universal church will in heaven be the bride of Christ and is composed of all who have believed from the day of Pentecost until Christ returns.

We affirm that the local church is an organized group of professing believers, united by the Holy Spirit, by doctrine, and ministry. The church assembles regularly to promote a progressive commitment to the worship of God, the people of God, the Word of God, and the work of God in the world (evangelism, discipleship). The local church is responsible for administrating the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, preaching the Bible, and maintaining discipline in church as prescribed in Matthew 18.

We affirm the independence of the local church from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority. Churches of like belief are to be interdependent as part of the universal church.
